Music Pick of December: Danger Days, the True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys
"Look Alive Sunshine."
So begins Danger Days, the newest album by My Chemical Romance. Now, some of you may be thinking that because My Chemical Romance did it it will be some Emo crap. However, this is not the case.
Drawing from the same thematic style of Tank Girl, this new album varies greatly from their previous work, which was mostly Emo Crap. This new album blends Electronic Synth with Punk/Pop Rock. And in the Music Video I just linked you to there are many shoutouts to post-apocalyptic films and books, as well as video game culture (Like the NES Blasters they use or Kobra Kid's Power Glove).
In the albums setting the end of the world was in the late 90's, as can be seen by their heavy punk revival influences in the music and film. It has also been slated to become a Comic Book. According to Gerard Way (The writer of the comic book and the lead singer of MCR) "It's simply about a guy who wants his Ramones records back. But during the character’s journey, and because the comic is a mature reader title, there will be much more mature and controversial themes, such as hate crimes and homophobia, the homogenization of American culture and American life." The Comic should be coming out later this year.
The Album is definitely a good buy, or you can pirate it if you don't want to pay for things anymore. (LEGAL NOTE: THIS SITE IN NO WAY ENDORSES OR CONDONES PIRACY) I'm just saying its an option. And if you do end up doing the unspeakable act of piracy, make sure to wear a pirate's hat and sing a sea shanty.
That random aside aside, the rest of the album is equally good as the song I linked you to. The song Vampire Money is especially funny, as it is a song all about the band selling out to the Twilight franchise (ugh) and how dirty it made them feel.
Basically, what I'm saying is get this album, you will not regret it.

SECOND (Tank Girl)
I would like to talk to you, if I may, about Tank Girl. A comic created by Jamie Hewlett (of the Gorillaz fame) and Alan Martin, this simply wonderful comic encompasses basically everything this blog talks about, as well as featuring a strong female lead character. And while I could talk about the Film (Which was awesome in its own right) I will focus on the comic for this particular article.
The comic, with very little regard for narrative or sequential plot, follows the lives of the titular character, Tank Girl, Booga (her mutant kangaroo boyfriend) and their misadventures with their friends and enemies. Set in a Post Apocalyptic Australia, (as most apocalypses are wont to be since Mad Max) the series has gained a considerable cult following since its inception in the early nineties. The comic was quite groundbreaking, drawing heavily from Punk subculture and Brit Pop. The comic's art style is heavily stylized, with surrealist influences and is a real pleasure to look at.
Tank Girl herself is a groundbreaking character, being a strong female lead who is often more of a man than her boyfriend is. She was a potent symbol of the growing empowerment of women in the nineties. She drank, she smoked, she belched and farted and she kicked ass seven ways to Sunday. She was everything that a 'women' was not supposed to be, and that is what made her so awesome.

FUCK YEAH FIRST POST.
... Wait I'm the only one here, damn. Well, welcome to the Punk Rockalypse Blog. I bet you have a few questions, such as "Where the hell am I?" or "What the fuck is this?" and "Why isn't there anything going on?"
Well, your answers are as follows:
1. "Where the hell am I?"
You sir are at the Punk Rockalypse Blog. The blog dedicated to punk, rock, punk rock and the apocalypse. I also talk about generally awesome things like Anarchy and Socialism, which are big, scary words used by the people in power to tell you who the bad guys are. And by their standards, I guess that I am a very wicked man.
2. "What the fuck is this?"
This is the first of many blog posts about cool stuff like guns and bombs and peace and love. But mostly just me spewing my half-mad political views. We will also talk about apocalypse survival and Punk influences in Pop Culture and the Apocalypse Genre.
3. "Why isn't there anything going on?
This being the First post, it make sense you would ask that. However, I will update at least once a week with something new so just wait a little while.
That wraps up our very first post here, Tune in next week for more! Or whenever really I'm pretty erratic when it comes to stuff like this.
